MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer team plays host to Missouri State this Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. The match marks the first of three straight home matches for Western, and will be aired on ESPN3.
A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois will look for its second win of the season, with the last one coming against Chicago State (3-1). Its lone tie came against North Dakota (0-0), which was also the first home match of the season, as well as the last time Western played in Macomb.
Mary Street leads the team with three points overall (one goal, one assist), followed by Ashley Kuhlmann and Bianca Romay with two (both have one goal this season). Romay leads the team in shots on goal this season with four.
In goal, Ines Palmiero Herrera, Lexi Harris and Jennifer Currie have all seen minutes this season. Palmiero Herrera has 26 saves on 68 shots faced, recorded a shutout and logged 453:19 minutes this year. Both Harris and Currie have played in two matches this year, with one start each. Harris has nine total saves and Currie has two.
A LOOK AT THE BEARS:
Missouri State currently sits at 3-4-2 overall. Prior to facing Western, the Bears have a match at Northern Iowa Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Missouri State has victories over Omaha (2-1), Central Arkansas (1-0) and Southeast Missouri State (1-0), while falling to No. 19 Texas Tech (1-0), Little Rock (2-0), Tulsa (3-1) and Oral Roberts (3-1). The two draws happened against Kansas City (0-0) and SIU-Edwardsville (1-1).
The Leathernecks and Bears will have two common opponents by their match on Sunday, Sept. 25. Western faced Kansas City in an exhibition (lost 3-0), and fell to Northern Iowa 3-0 on the road (Sept. 18). Missouri State also faced South Dakota State (exhibition), Omaha and Oral Roberts, which are programs the Leathernecks will go up against in Summit League play later on this season.
Both Molly Brewer and Brook Zimmerman lead the team with five points each. They have two goals and one assist apiece this year. Head coach Rob Brewer has been with the program since its first season in 1996.
SERIES HISTORY:
Western Illinois trails the all-time series 1-3-0. The last meeting happened on Sept. 20, 2015, where the Bears won 2-0. The Leathernecks look for their first win over Missouri State since Oct. 7, 2007 (1-0), which was also the first meeting between the two programs.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Western Illinois opens Summit League play following their match against Missouri State. WIU takes on Denver Friday, Sept. 30 at John MacKenzie Alumni Field for a 3 p.m. kickoff. They follow with another home match against South Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 2 at noon.
