Men's Tennis Falls to Saint Louis

Leathernecks continue play on February 19 at Valparaiso

The Western Illinois men's tennis team was back in action Saturday (Feb. 13) evening, as the Leathernecks faced Saint Louis. WIU couldn't get going against the Billikins, dropping a 7-0 decision. Western falls to 0-3 on the year while Saint Louis moves to 7-1 on the year.
 
"Saint Louis was very competitive today," said head coach Mashiska Washington. "We played hard but were unable to get the win."
 
Doubles action kicked off the competition, were the Purple and Gold dropped all three doubles matches. The duo of Surya Sawhney and Jacob Sanders had the best success at the No. 1 spot but ultimately fell, 6-2.
 
Western was unable to get things going in singles play, as the Billikins took all six matches. Ross Smith took to the No. 2 spot where he fell, 6-2, 6-2. Nolan Jones (No. 3) and Kerry Nozum (No. 5) each lost by 6-0, 6-1 margins. Sawhney played his first match at No. 1 this year, but lost by a final of 6-1, 6-0. Jacob Sanders and Christopher Nozum fell by 6-0, 6-0 finals at the No. 4 and 6 spots, respectively.
 
Western returns to action on February 19, as the Leathernecks travel to face Valparaiso. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
