FINAL RESULTS

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -
It was a late night for Western Illinois track and field as the Leathernecks competed under the lights on Saturday (April 18) at the Illinois Twilight meet in Champaign, Illinois. The Purple and Gold returned to Macomb with 20 'Top 10' finishes, including a pair of first-place marks in the long and triple jumps by Jasmine Brown.

"The throwers led the team today with multiple personal bests across the board. They have really started to put the pieces together, capped off by Sheila Grant-Shaffer's throw for second place," said head coach Mike Stevenson following the meet. "Jasmine Brown continued her hot streak in the triple jump as Alyssa Johnson continued to impress in the 800. The men were led by Xavier Levy's effort in the 200 and an improved effort in the 4x100 relay. Grant Kaiser looked good in the 3000 meter run for a Freshman. In the end, I do think we had a bit of the "home meet hangover" and we're a bit flat in some areas, so hopefully we will get back on the path next week."

For Western's women throwers, Grant-Shaffer set a new personal-record in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.74 meters. The toss gave her a second-place finish and moves her to sixth in Western history. The Highland Park, Illinois native also threw an outdoor personal-best 13.40 meters in the shot put to finish fourth. Mary-Bianca Fuller also grabbed a 'Top 10' finish for the throwers, ending the day ninth in the discus.

Additional top finishes for the women included Brown extending her win streak in the long and triple jumps to two straight weeks. Her triple jump of 12.56 meters increases her all-time top mark by two inches. Also, Johnson cut her top time in the 800 meter run to 2:14.43, crossing the finish in eighth place.

For the men it was the sprinter corps of Justin Kilpatrick, Tyler Younkin, and Levy leading the way for Western. Kilpatrick captured a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter dash while Levy crossed sixth in the same event. Levy also snagged a fourth place finish in the 200 with Younkin ending up 10th.  Younkin set his own personal record in the 400 with a time of 50.09. Daniel Ingram completed the same event in the exact same time. Cedric Cheeks and Kaylon Cutts grabbed a pair of 'Top 10' marks in the men's triple jump and Danny Daniels along with Max Ford did the same in the javelin.

Western continues competition next weekend (April 24-25) with the Drake Relays on its schedule (pending qualifiers) along with the Stan Lyons Invite in Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted by Butler.
