HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - The Western Illinois men's golf team wrapped up play in the APSU Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 20) in second place with a score of 836. The Fighting Leathernecks fired a 280 in round one, a 276 in the second round and a 280 during the final 18 holes, and had two Leatherneck golfers finishing in the 'Top 10' overall.

WIU's three-round score of 836 ranks first in the program's NCAA Division I era. The next closest scores came in the fall season of 2005 when Western recorded marks of 838 and 845.

"We played terrific for all three rounds, Belmont was just a little better," said head coach Mel Blasi. "Our captain Andrew Blackburn had another outstanding tournament as did Adam (Falk), Jackson (Wetherbee) and Carter (Morrison). Our last two tournaments certainly showed what we are capable of, and gives us some great momentum heading into the Spring."

Blackburn, a junior, tied for sixth place after firing a career-best 207, carding a 69 (-3) in each of the three rounds. His score of 207 ranks tied for fifth in the WIU record book.

Adam Falk was the other Leatherneck to finished in the 'Top 10', firing a season-low score of 209 with scores of 73, 67 and 69. The freshman finished tied for eighth place overall, and Falk's score of 209 is one stroke away from being tied for eighth in program history.

Also finishing in the 'Top 15' was freshman Jackson Wetherbee who recorded a 210 with single-round scores of 69, 71 and 70, and finished tied for 13th overall.

Junior Carter Morrison finished in 17th place with a 212 to round out WIU's top four scores. Morrison recorded marks of 69, 69 and 74 in the three rounds.

Alex Templin finished in 38th place with a 218 (73-73-72), while freshman Graham Conrad, who was competing as an individual, finished 63rd with a 233 (77-76-80).

The Leathernecks will look to carry their momentum into the 2016 spring schedule leading up the The Summit League Championship which is slated for May 1-3, 2016, in Newton, Kan.
