Levy Leads Leathernecks to Victory at Northern Iowa

The Purple and Gold took home 10 individual first place finishes, with Xavier Levy and Jasmine Brown collecting two each.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Western Illinois sprinter Xavier Levy collected two first place finishes (60m, 200m), including a personal record in the 200-meter dash, on the way to a Leatherneck men's track victory on Friday (Jan. 30) at the Jack Jennett Invitational, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Levy's outstanding performance led a team effort that resulted in 10 first place finishes between the men's and women's team combined. Jasmine Brown led the women with two individual championships in the long jump and triple jump; all in a meet that was originally scheduled to last two days and was shortened to one.

"This was a solid meet for us. It was nice claiming some event champions, highlighted by Xavier and Jasmine Brown each winning two events," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "The bulk of our team competed in an extra event this weekend, with many athletes running in three races on a pretty quick turnaround. We tested their character a bit and most responded well. This meet marked the end of a pretty heavy training cycle and hopefully we are set up for some special performances in the next three meets."

Aaliyah White also joined the championship party for the Leathernecks, clocking a first place time in the women's 400-meter dash and adding a second place finish in the women's 200-meter.

On the men's side, Daniel Ingram, Jeff Padesky, and Darius Thomas all added their own first place finishes to the team effort in the 400-meter dash, pole vault and 600-meter run respectively. Levy's personal record in the 200-meters also improves the Summit League's number one time in the event.

With the Jack Jennett behind them, the Purple and Gold look next to the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
