Fighting Leathernecks Look to Get Back to Winning Ways at Home Against South Dakota

Thursday's contest will be a part of Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers™ Awareness Week.

MACOMB, Ill. - Fighting Leathernecks men's basketball (7-10, 2-4 SL) begins its longest home stand of the season at 7 p.m. Thursday night (Jan. 22) when Western Illinois welcomes league foe South Dakota (9-10, 3-2 SL) to Macomb... South Dakota was selected to finish eighth in the preseason poll, but as of Jan. 20 sits tied for fourth in the league standings.

COACHES FOR CANCER: Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers™ Awareness Week, a collaborative initiative of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, will take place Jan. 19-25, 2015. During this week, more than 4,000 high school and college men's basketball coaches, including head coach Billy Wright and our Western Illinois staff, will swap their dress shoes for sneakers with their usual game attire during Jan. 22's game against the South Dakota Coyotes to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society's efforts to finish the fight against cancer.

College and high school coaches and teams who participate in Suits And Sneakers Awareness Week help the American Cancer Society save lives and fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. The Society's efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates since the 1960s. The Society is finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need, and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more.
