MACOMB, Ill. - The long-awaited 25th Annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational is upon us. Western Illinois is excited to welcome Olympians, members of the Calhoun family and more than a dozen track & field programs to Macomb to celebrate Lee Calhoun's legacy throughtout the weekend (April 10-12).
While the full schedule is listed below, the meet begins with heptathlon and decathlon events on Thursday at 1 p.m. Friday's schedule includes decathlon and heptathlon events starting at 9:45 a.m., with field events starting at 1 p.m. and track events beginning at 3:30 p.m. Following Friday's events, the meet banquet begins at 6:30 p.m.
After the Lee Calhoun Memorial Plaza Ceremony on Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m., the national anthem will take place at 10:50 a.m., which will be followed by the beginning of track & field events. The meet is scheduled to conclude around 4 p.m.
Saturday's track events will be aired live on RockyVision, and will also be available on demand after the meet.

AMONG THE BEST: Western Illinois has three marks that currently rank in the top 100 nationally... Jasmine Brown holds the only top 50 mark: she's 49th in the long jump (19-08.00)... Nathaniel Marshall sits 51st in the hammer throw (197-09) and Jamario Taylor ranks 57th in the high jump (6-08.75).
PRESEASON POLL: After finishing fifth at the Summit League Championships last year, Western Illinois men's track & field was projected to finish fourth this season... The Leatherneck women were tabbed to finish fifth out of seven programs, ahead of Fort Wayne and IUPUI... North Dakota State was projected to win on both the men's and women's sides.
RECORD HOLDERS: A pair of Leatherneck men currently hold the outdoor program records in their respective events...Michael Castel set the program's top 3,000-meter run mark last year with a time of 8:34.13... Jamario Taylor sits in a tie for first place, after clearing 7-00.50 in the high jump during the 2012 outdoor season.
INDOOR ALL-LEAGUE: Western had 11 competitors earn All-Summit League honors at the Summit League Indoor Championship meet, four more than the previous season... Nathaniel Marshall broke the conference meet record in the weight throw to defend his conference title, while Jamario Taylor also defended a conference title by winning the high jump... Davin Dollison was Western's third champion, winning the long jump... Other individuals who earned All-Conference honors with top-three finishes included: Megan McGlone, Justin Kilpatrick (second place), Chelsea Lynes, Tyler Younkin, and Michael Castel (third place)... Lynes was joined by Aaliyah White, Phyllis George and Kelsey Capovilla on the All-League 4x400 relay squad.
HOME SWEET HOME: Western Illinois will hold the 25th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational, the lone home meet of the season, from April 10-12. To register for the event's banquet on April 11, click HERE... Calhoun won the gold at both the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and the 1960 Olympics in Rome before starting his coaching career. He was the head track & field coach at Western Illinois beginning in 1980 until his passing in 1989 at age 56... Roger Kingdom became the second to win back-to-back golds, earning the honor at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He currently serves as the speed coach for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals and will be attending and speaking at the banquet.Â
BANQUET:
In conjunction with the 25th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational, the event's banquet is set for Friday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Western Illinois Student Union Grand Ballroom.
Lee Calhoun is one of just two individuals ever to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the 110-meter hurdle event; the other is Roger Kingdom, who will be attending and speaking at the banquet.

The track & field meet is scheduled for April 10-12, along with a special ceremony on Saturday (April 12) at 10:15 a.m. to dedicate the Calhoun Plaza at the entrance of Hanson Field.
Western Illinois University President Dr. Jack Thomas will be attending both events, as will the Leatherneck track & field team.
Calhoun won the gold at both the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and the 1960 Olympics in Rome before starting his coaching career. He was the head track & field coach at Western Illinois beginning in 1980 until his passing in 1989 at age 56.
