GREEN BAY, Wis. – Western Illinois men's tennis dropped a pair of decisions in the state of Wisconsin over the weekend. The Fighting Leathernecks dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 49 ranked Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday afternoon, then lost 7-0 at Green Bay on Sunday (March 9).
Down to just five players over the weekend with normal number one singles player Christoph Haertel not in the lineup, sophomore Mitch Granger moved up to the top singles spot. He dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Oskar Wikberg.
Max Cederkall took a game at the number two singles, and Chris Bunch also picked up a game win in the four singles. With only five players, the doubles point was not played.
Western (1-9 overall) battled against the Phoenix on Sunday. Granger battled Michael Tenzer but lost a 6-3, 6-4 decision in number one. Cederkall lost 6-3, 6-3 in the number two spot, and Brandon Meeker lost 6-2, 6-2 in the three singles. Chris Bunch lost 6-1, 6-3 at number four. Brett Furmanski lost 6-1, 6-4 in the five singles slot.
Green Bay won the top two doubles point and the third doubles match was not played.
The Leathernecks continue their spring break trip on Thursday (March 13) at Wright State. Match time is scheduled for 9 a.m. central.
