Leathernecks Conclude Regular Season at Iowa

MACOMB, Ill. - Fighting Leatherneck swimming & diving concludes regular season action this Friday (Feb. 7) in Iowa City, Iowa against Big Ten member Iowa. 

LAST TIME OUT: The Leathernecks held their final home meet of the season on February 1 against Butler, who did not bring any male athletes to the meet. The Leatherneck men still competed, recording 23 season-highs. The Western women notched 18 season-best times, yet fell to the Bulldogs 148-65. For a full recap of the meet, click HERE.

UP NEXT: Western will compete in The Summit League Championships beginning on February 19. The three-day event takes place at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.

RECORD BREAKER: Chris Neaveill broke two program records for the Leathernecks during House of Champions, notching first place finishes in both the 100-yard butterfly (49.21) and 200-yard butterfly (1:50.37). The Germantown Hills, Ill. native topped the previous record of 50.08 in the 100-fly, which had stood since 1994. The previous 200-fly record of 1:53.29 had stood since 2003.

LEAGUE HONORS: Freshman Chris Neaveill and junior Doug Ogilvie were named The Summit League's male 'Swimmer of the Week' and male 'Diver of the Week' for their performances against SLU. In his first collegeiate meet, Neaveill won both the 100 fly and 50 fly with times of 51.56 and 23.30. Neaveill's time in the 100 fly broke the Brophy Hall Pool record which had stood since 1978. Ogilvie picked up his sixth 'Diver of the Week' honor after winning the one-meter dive with a score of 269.00 and the three-meter dive with 257.35 points.

TEAM CAPTAINS: The 2013-14 captains for the women's side are: Julia Rassmussen, Haley Brasile and Mary Betsworth. The captains for the men's side are Kevin Arakaki and Tyler Neaveill.

PRESEASON POLL:  The preseason poll was released on Thursday (Oct. 3) and was voted on by the head coaches. The Leatherneck men were chosen to finish in sixth place while the Western women were picked to finish in seventh place.
