Yves Dietrich and Mario Alvarez Tabbed for Summit League 'Players of the Week'

Dietrich claims his third consecutive 'Defensive Player of the Week' award while Alvarez ears his second 'Offensive Player of the Week' award this season.

ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois' Mario Alvarez was named The Summit League's 'Offensive Player of the Week' for the second time this season while goalkeeper Yves Dietrich earned his third consecutive 'Defensive Player of the Week' award following their performances October 13-19. Dietrich is only the second player in Summit League history to win the award three straight weeks.

Dietrich collected his third consecutive honor and fourth of his career after a shutout in Western Illinois' Summit League win over Eastern Illinois. In the process, Dietrich extended the NCAA's longest active shutout streak to six games (540:00 minutes) with a three-save performance. He has a league-high three Player of the Week awards this season.

Alvarez claimed his third career honor, and second this season, after netting the game-winning goal in Western Illinois' 1-0 league victory over Eastern Illinois. His goal in the 51st minute of the 1-0 triumph extended the Fighting Leathernecks win streak to six. Alvarez also had a season-high five shots, including three on goal, in the contest.

Alvarez and Dietrich lead the Purple and Gold into action next, on Tuesday, October 21 in a midweek nonconference tilt at Drake. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
