MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois junior Kevin Kintzel (New Lenox/Lincoln Way West) was chosen by the College Football Performance Awards as an Honorable Mention selection following last weekend's game. It marks the fourth time this year Kintzel earned the accolade.
He matched a career-high of nine tackles, sharing the team lead, against Missouri State. Kintzel also recovered a fumble and recorded two tackles for a loss, totaling 11 yards.
Kintzel enters this weekend tied for second nationally with three fumble recoveries, a statistic that also has him tied for sixth among the Western season 'Top 10' leaders.
On the year, Kintzel ranks third on the team with 52 tackles. His 7.0 tackles for a loss are second, and he leads the Leatherneck defense with 34 yards in his TFL. He shares the team-lead with two interceptions and ranks second with five pass break-ups.
The Leathernecks will play host to Southern Illinois this Saturday (Nov. 2) in their home finale, kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. Western will also wear its retro purple jerseys as part of celebrating 'Rock Hanson Day'.
