MACOMB, Ill. - During
the next seven days, three individuals will be on campus to interview for the
Western Illinois University head football coach opening. Director of Athletics
Dr. Tim Van Alstine announced the three finalists on Wednesday (Dec. 12).
David Brown is currently
the head coach at Missouri S&T. He will interview on Thursday. Bob Nielson, head coach at
Minnesota-Duluth, will be on Monday. Bill
Cubit, former head coach at Western Michigan, is scheduled to interview on
Tuesday.
According to Van Alstine, he anticipates announcing a head
coach shortly after.
"We are very excited about the three finalists for our head
football coach position. All three candidates have extensive coaching
experience at various levels, all with success. We want to bring in the right
individual to make Leatherneck Football an annual contender in the Missouri
Valley Football Conference," said Van Alstine. "Our goal is to have someone
hired very soon so they can hit the ground running with putting together their
coaching staff and to get on the road recruiting. We received a great deal of
interest in our opening. I would like to commend the work of our search
committee to narrow the field down to these three candidates."
