MACOMB, Ill. - A trio from the Western
Illinois football team were notes for their performance last weekend by the
College Football Performance Awards. Senior defensive back Kieron James (Bradenton, FL/Southeast), junior wide receiver Fredson Salomon (Miami, FL/North
Miami/ASA), and sophomore running back Nikko
Watson (Rock Island/Rock Island) earned Honorable Mention accolades from the
national organization.
Western
ended an eight-game road losing streak on Saturday following its 24-17 win at
South Dakota.
James
made six tackles (five solos) at cornerback, but his forced fumble that Western
recovered and blocked punt at the start of the third quarter both led to
scoring drives.
Watson
turned in his fifth career 100-yard rushing game, netting 126 yards on 21
attempts. His 32-yard run in the game was a season-high.
Salomon
earned the honor as an all-purpose performer, finishing with 109 receiving
yards and another 55 on three kickoff returns. Two of his three receptions went
for touchdowns, the first two TD receptions for the Leathernecks this season.
Salomon entered the game with 92 receiving yards in four games.
Western
(3-2 overall, 1-1 MVFC) travels to South Dakota State this Saturday (Oct. 13)
for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The game will be televised live on Mediacom and can also
be seen on ESPN3.
