Leathernecks play host to Evansville in soccer doubleheader

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois men's soccer team is set to host its first home match in two weeks when it takes on Evansville at John MacKenzie Alumni Field at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19.

The Fighting Leathernecks (1-3-2) are looking to rebound after dropping a 1-0 decision to Eastern Illinois on Wednesday. Western Illinois will look to snap a three-game losing streak. The Leathernecks outshot the Panthers 15 to seven but were able to put just three shots on target

The Purple Aces (4-1-0) enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak. Evansville will host Xavier on Friday before making the trip to Macomb. The Purple Aces have scored 18 goals through their first five matches.

Snapping the Skid
The Fighting Leathernecks will look to snap a three-game skid when they return home on Sunday. The stretch included close losses to Eastern Illinois and SMU and a 4-0 defeat at the hands of then No. 3 Tulsa. Western Illinois began the 2009 season with losses in its first three matches but ended the season as The Summit League Tournament Champions and earned a spot in the NCAA College Cup.

MacKenzie Field may hold the key to the team's success as the Leathernecks are 4-1-2 at home since the start of last season. Western Illinois has outscored its opponents 7-3 in its past seven home matches. 

Soccer Doubleheader Slated for Sunday
The Western Illinois men's and women's soccer teams will play in a soccer doubleheader on Sunday, one of two doubleheaders this season. The women will face Eastern Illinois at noon before the men take on Evanvsville at 2 p.m., both games will take place at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

The second doubleheader will take place on Sunday, Oct. 17 when the women play host to Centenary at noon before the men take on Western Michigan at 2 p.m.
