Ames, Iowa - The Western Illinois indoor track and field teams finished the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 13-14 in their last meet before The Summit League Championships in two weeks.
For the Westerwinds, senior ChrisDell Harris competed in three events, taking 15th place in the 60-meter dash (8.18), 17th in the 200-meter dash (24.88) and 19th in the long jump (5.55m).
The distance medley relay team of Amy Byers, Mary Kate Jackson, Josi Parker and Beth Whalen finished the event in 13th place with a time of 12:06.95. Byers, Jackson and Parker also ran in the 800-meter run finishing with times of 2:17.76 (18th), 2:16.81 (12th) and 2:18.75 (24th).
In the 5000-meter run, Carianna Cottone finished 12th (17:56.44) and Chandel Ray took 31st (18:45.89).
Other top performances included Whalen finishing the 3000-meter run in 23rd (10:07.26) and Nikki Klier finishing the 200 dash in 65th (25.87).
The distance medley relay team of Eric Anerino, Kevin Deegan, Blair Hadnott and Jared Schmidt had the highest finish for the Leathernecks taking 8th in the event with a time of 9:55.16. Anerino and Schmidt both participated in the 1-mile event with times of 4:20.42 (12th) and 4:17.55 (9th).
Handott competed in two other events during the weekend taking ninth in the triple jump (14.25m) and 22nd in the long jump (6.80). Brian Pinta also participated in the long jump with a distance of 6.48m (21'03.25'') for a 45th-place finish.
In the 800 run, Deegan crossed the finish line in a time of 1:51.11 (11th) and Todd Farbiak finished 30th (1:57.18).
Michael Hemming,
Marcus McGee and Pinta all ran in the 400-meter dash with times of 51.27 (48th), 51.14 (45th) and 50.87 (34th).
The Western Illinois indoor track and field teams take two weeks off before participating in The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 27-28 in Manhattan, Kan.
