DES MOINES, Iowa- The Western Illinois men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season after edging out Creighton, 4-3, at the Drake Tennis Center.
The Leathernecks (1-6) picked up the double points by winning at the top two doubles spots. At No. 1 doubles, senior
Zach Frisch and junior
James McGuire easily defeated
Brian Ward and Jose Guerra, 8-1. Seniors
Neil Lesinski and
Sean Ragee-Nelson took a little bit longer but still picked up a win, defeating Creighton's Gabe Nagy and James McAvoy.
In singles play, Western got the split that they needed by picking up wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, all in straight sets. At No. 1, Frisch defeated Guerra, 6-3, 6-0. Lesinski picked up his first singles win of the season by beating Kyle Obermeier, 6-3, 6-1. Ragee-Nelson extended his singles winning streak to three matches by beating Bryan Lube, 6-2, 6-1.
The Leathernecks finish a busy weekend with a match against Drake Sunday, February 15, at 12 p.m. at the Drake Tennis Center.
