heads to Wichita, Kan., to face Wichita State on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:05 p.m. The contenst with Witchita State is the first of four games the team will play on its 11-day road swing.

Leathernecks hold Huskie offense to its lowest scoring effort in over a yearWhen the Leathernecks defeated the Huskies in DeKalb, Ill., it was the first time an opponent has held the Northern offense under 50 points since Jan. 9, 2008, when Eastern Michigan defeated the Huskies, 61-42, in Ypsilanti, Mich. Before playing Western, the Huskies put up 86 points in rout of Bradley on Friday, Nov. 13 in DeKalb, Ill.
Lewis paces Western offense Lewis is off to a tremendous start for Western, leading the team in scoring only two games into the season by averaging 14.5 points per game. Lewis had a team-high 12 points against No. 23 Purdue on Nov. 15 and a team-high 17 points against Northern Illinois on Nov. 17.
The guard currently has the second-best shooting percentage on team, posting a .448 field-goal percentage from the floor.
Lord leads defensive efforts For the second-consecutive game, senior
Ashley Lord has led the team in rebounding. Lord pulled down seven rebounds in the win over Northern and is averaging eight rebounds per game in addition to averaging three points per game.
The senior also leads the team in minutes played this season, averaging 31.5 minutes per game.
O'Brien contributing in a number of ways Senior
Jordon O'Brien scored nine points in the win over Northern as well as dishing out a game-high four assists. She also pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals.
The floor general is averaging 9.5 points per game with a team-best .471 shooting percentage from the floor in addition to averaging 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game.
Barton continues to contribute off the benchIn 18 minutes of action against Northern,
Jackie Barton made the most of her time in the game as she scored five points, pulled down four rebounds and added an assist and a steal. The guard also did not commit a single turnover after committing four in her career debut at No. 23 Purdue.
The junior is averaging 3.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game in addition to grabbing a team-high six offensive boards on the year.
Salvatori adding depth to the postFreshman
Michele Salvatori is adding the depth to the post position this season, posting 5.5 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. The newcomer is typically the first person off the bench as she has averaged 20 minutes per game, the most minutes of Western non-starters.
Jones knocks down first career basket With 1:52 left in the first half against the Huskies, freshman
Christina Jones hit a jump shot at the top of the key to score her first career basket with the Leathernecks to put the team ahead, 22-21.
Not getting to the foul line The Leathernecks are currently taking less than half as many free-throw attempts than their opponents (17-36). Lewis and Salvatori led the team from the line as the both have been 3-for-4 from the charity strip.
O'Brien in the record booksO'Brien currently ranks seventh all-time in Western Illinois history with 83 three-point baskets made, eight away from taking over sixth place. She also ranks sixth all-time in Western Illinois history in three-point field goals attempted with 252, seven attempts away from fifth place.
Scouting Wichita StateWichita State opened their season at Colorado State with an 85-60 loss. Haleigh Lankster led the team in scoring with 18 points while Jessica Diamond and Marisah Henderson both scored 11 points.
Every player on the team recorded at least one rebound in the defensive effort, led by Sheena Johnson who pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Last time out against Wichita StateThe Leathernecks and Shockers last met on Dec. 21, 2008, with Wichita State winning the contest, 65-46, in Wichita, Kan.
Nicole Myers led the team in scoring with eight points while
Amanda Walker added seven points and
Jordon O'Brien chipped in six points.
In her first game of the 2008-09 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Lord pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in her Western debut.
The Shockers own a 14-8 advantage in the overall series record between the two teams.
Tough schedule in 2009-10The Leathernecks will face teams from eight different conferences, including teams from the Big XII and the Big Ten conferences.
Three of their 2009-10 opponents in No. 3 Ohio State, No. 23 Purdue and South Dakota State participated in the 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and two other opponents in Oklahoma State and Oakland participated in the 2008-09 WNIT Postseason Tournament.
