Leathernecks extend winning streak to four

MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches after a 6-1 defeat of Chicago State at Brophy Courts.

"I'm really pleased with this win today," said Western Illinois head coach Michael Hunt. "Chicago State was coming in off a huge upset of Illinois-Chicago and to beat them this decisively, I think, says a lot about where we stand in the hierarchy of Division I tennis in Illinois."

The Leathernecks (8-5) started the match off by taking the doubles point from the Cougars (3-9), by winning two out of the three doubles mathces. At No. 1 doubles, juniors Zach Frisch (Kansas City, Mo./Rockhurst) and Neil Lesinski (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake) defeated twin brothers Prabowo and Prakoso Imanuel, 8-5. Senior Martin Boström (Stockholm, Sweden/Varmdo Gymnasium/Missouri Valley) and junior Sean Ragee-Nelson (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) defeated Abram Mamahit and Aumir Ahmad, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles to extend their winning streak to eight matches.

In singles play, Western took five of the six matches and didn't drop a set in its five wins. Frisch defeated Prabowo Imanuel, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Boström moved his singles record to 15-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Prakoso Imanuel at the No. 2 singles position. Lesinski won his 10th match of the year with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jonathon Sutjiadi at No. 3 singles. Also winning for the Leathernecks in singles was Ragee-Nelson at No. 5 singles and junior Andy Jones (Huntsville, Texas/Huntsville/Howard Payne).

"I was especially pleased with our top three players ? Zach, Martin, and Neil," stated Hunt. "They had just come off a disappointing match against UMKC and to see each of them play this well was very encouraging going into next weekend's conference matches."

Western plays a mid-week home match against Lewis, Wednesday, April 9, at 3 p.m., before hosting a Summit League cluster Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 12.
