LEMONT, Ill. - The Western Illinois men's golf team wrapped up a season-best 5th-place finish at the John Dallio Memorial hosted by DePaul University.
Jared Steger (Bannockburn, Ill./Northern Illinois) continued to pace Western as he finished in a tie for 11th place. Steger ended his two days of competition eight-strokes over par at 224 (76-69-79), which was seven shots off the pace of Northern Iowa's Jordan Weber.
Jason Woll (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) matched Steger in the final round by shooting a 79, and finished the tournament one stroke behind his teammate with a nine-over, 225 (75-71-79). Also carding a final round 79 was Brian Scott (Hannibal, Mo./Hannibal), which gave him a share of 27th place at 229 (78-72-79). Kyle Peterman (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville) finished tied for 41st with a 232 (77-75-80), while David Marshall (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) fired a team best 76 final round, which gave him a 252 (94-82-76), rounding out team scoring for Western.
Andrew Godfrey (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Floosmoor) and
Brian Sandoval (Geneseo, Ill./J.D. Darnall) participated as individuals in the tournament. Godfrey finished the three-round event with a 234 (81-74-79), tied for 49th. Sandoval grabbed a share of 68th with his 245 (87-80-78).
The University of Detroit-Mercy captured the team title by 10 strokes at 16-over par.
Western Illinois returns to Macomb, as it takes on IUPUI in a single day match, Saturday, October 13th at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course.
