Men's Golf Finishes Their Spring Season with a 7th Place Finish At The OVC Championships

MACOMB, Ill- The WIU Men's Golf team wrapped up their Spring portion of their schedule on Tuesday afternoon, placing in seventh place as a team. WIU shot an 888 (+24) over three rounds. Several Leathernecks led the way as three golfers placed in the top 30 individually.

Mateo Rascon (+2) finished the highest among WIU, tying in 18th place at the tournament. On Sunday, Rascon shot three-under (-3) in the opening round of the tournament. He had five total birdies in round one, with three of them coming on the back nine to finish his first round with a back nine score of 33 (-3) and total score of 69. After shooting a 79 (+7) in round two on Monday, Rascon would finish the OVC tournament strong, firing a 70 (-2) in the third and final round. He would once again birdie three holes on the back nine to shoot a back nine score of 33 (-3) to wrap up the tournament.

Baptiste Labeyrie (+5) and Maverick Schwabe (+6) were the other two Leathernecks who placed in the top 30, with Labeyrie finishing tied for 26th place and Schwabe placing 29th. Schwabe's best round would come in round one, where he shot a 72 (E), and picked up three birdies on the round. Baptiste opened with a first round score of 70 (-2), picking up four birdies on the front nine. He would be the only Leatherneck to have an Eagle, which came in round three on hole 15. Labeyrie would end the third round with a 74 (+2) in his final tournament of his Senior season.

Rounding out the scores for WIU was Owen Howe (+11), who had the best second round score for the Leathernecks. Howe shot a 69 (-3) in round two, having a total of five birdies for the round.

With the OVC Championships being over for WIU, this concludes the Men's Golf season for the Spring of 2025.
