Javin Drake helped Western Illinois clinch its Summit League baseball series last weekend over Fort Wayne in the conference opener for both teams. He was named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week for his efforts.

Drake pitched a season-high 7.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits. The freshman right-hander walked one and struck out three as the Leathernecks took 2-of-3 following his 4-1 win on Sunday.

In five appearances (four starts), Drake is second on the team with 22.2 innings and third with 17 strikeouts.

He carries a 4.0 GPA and is undecided on a major.
