Western Illinois softball player Emily Ira hasĀ been tabbed WIU's Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the WeekĀ for her performances on the field and in the classroom.

Over three games, the sophomore struck out a total of 40 batters in 23 innings. She gave up only one walk, ten hits and allowed two earned runs, giving her an ERA of 0.78 over the weekend.

In Saturday's win over Oakland, Ira set a Western Illinois program record of 19 strikeouts in a single-game. She did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and did not give up a walk in 22 batters faced.

The Iowa City, Iowa native struck out 10 batters in Western's game against Indiana, only giving up three hits and no earned runs. In the tournament cap against Memphis, Ira sat down 11 batters with only two earned runs and no walks.
Ira owns a 3.721 GPA and is a Pre-Nursing major.
