The Leatherneck volleyball program added a piece to its coaching staff for the 2018 season, head coach
Kelly Richardson announced Friday (Feb. 2). Taylor Szypulski has been named assistant volleyball coach at Western Illinois.
"Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our volleyball program. Having served on our staff previously, she has a working knowledge of how we train and is invested in the goals we have set forth for WIU Volleyball," said Richardson. "Taylor is a great communicator and has developed strong relationships on our campus, as well as on the recruiting trail. She understands what it takes to be successful in The Summit League, and will continue helping our program as we make positive strides forward. Taylor's intensity and work ethic in the gym is exactly what we're looking for, and we are exceptionally happy to welcome her back to the Leatherneck family."
Szypulski returns to Macomb after serving as a graduate assistant for the volleyball program at Western Illinois for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
"I'm excited to be returning to Western Illinois, and coaching along side
Kelly Richardson. I'd like to thank Athletic Director Matt Tanney, and the entire search committee for this opportunity. I'm eager to get back to work with our student-athletes and continue the growth and success that we are building here at Western," Szypulski said.
Prior to her time at WIU, Szypulski spent the 2014 season as an assistant coach alongside Richardson at UT Arlington. While with the Mavs, Szypulski focused on working with the outside hitters, film breakdown and recruiting for the Mavericks.
Before her time at UT Arlington, Szypulski was an outside hitter for Arkansas State from 2010-2013. Her senior season was cut short due to injury, but Szypulski moved into a student-coach role with the team. She was named to Athletic Director's Honor Roll in 2011.
