Nykosi Simmons enters her second season with the Leathernecks women’s soccer program as a graduate assistant coach.
Simmons joins Western Illinois and reunites with her former teammate and current assistant coach Josee Primeau.
The Scarborough, Ontario, native as a four-year starter at Mississippi Valley State, and was named MVSU Female Athlete of the Year along with 2015 SWAC Offensive Player of the year in her senior year. That season Simmons also led the NCAA in points and goals per game en route to being selected to First Team All-SWAC. She also became the first-ever SWAC player to make an All-Region team and later was listed to the SWAC Top 20 Players list, along with winning the Most Valuable Player award.
She earned multiple Offensive Player of the Week honors to go along with being selected to the First Team All-SWAC in 2013. As a junior, Simmons was named team captain and earned Second Team All-SWAC. The former Devilette was part of the team that won the SWAC Championship where she was named to the All-Tournament team and later earned the honor once again in 2015.
Prior to her career at MVSU, Simmons was a member of the U17 Trinidad and Tobago Women's national team that competed in the 2010 World Cup.
A 2016 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University, she earned her bachelor's degree in social work and is pursuing her master's in Sociology.
