In 2015 Daniel Lewis will enter his second season as a Leatherneck men's soccer assistant coach.
In his first season as assistant to Dr. Eric Johnson, Lewis served as goalkeepers coach, helping train Yves Dietrich, the 2014 Summit League Goalkeeper of the year. Lewis's efforts also contributed to the Leathernecks six-game shutout streak and eight-game unbeaten streak that led the nation for part of the season. Western Illinois defeated Western Michigan where Lewis played prior to his career at WIU.
During his playing career at Western (2010-11) Lewis appeared in 39 games and started in 35. In his junior season Lewis took 18 shots and tallied two assists with his lone goal coming as the game-winner against Fort Wayne. Lewis' senior campaign for the Leathernecks featured 45 shots, 22 on goal. He finished tied for first on the team in goals scored with five and notched one assist. Lewis was a part of three game winning plays (two goals, one assist) and was second on the team in points with 11.
Before coming to Western Illinois, Lewis played at Western Michigan where he appeared in 28 games and made 14 starts in two seasons. While at Western Michigan, Lewis took a total of 25 shots with nine of those going on goal. Lewis' career at Western Michigan ended with him scoring two goals and tallying two assists.
In high school Lewis was a three-year letterwinner and his 2005 high school team was ranked No. 1 in the state. Lewis was named All-Conference and All-Area in 2006. He also played for the Socker F.C. Elite Club team for nine years and was a member of the 2003 and 2004 Michigan Wolves state runner-up team. In 2006 Lewis was also a part of the Illinois State Championship team with Sockers F.C., and in 2005 the Illinois State Runner-Up. 2006 also featured Lewis as a National Champion with US Club Soccer. Throughout his youth, Lewis was a member of the Michigan Olympic Development Program (ODP), 2000-04 and Illinois ODP, 2004-07.  Â
