Adam McGinnis enters his second season with the Leatherneck baseball program as a graduate assistant coach.
A former Leatherneck standout, McGinnis makes his way back to the Purple and Gold after spending last season as an assistant coach at Heartland CC.
A four-year starter for the Leathernecks, McGinnis signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago White Sox concluding his senior year. McGinnis spent two years in the Chicago organization with his first stop in the Arizona Fall League where he slugged .532 on three home runs and a total of 18 hits. The following year he was promoted to Grand Fall Voyagers (Rookie Ball) and was part of the club that won the Pioneer League Championship. While there McGinnis appeared in 29 games knocking 23 hits, five doubles to go along with 19 RBI and six homers.
Before he began his professional career, McGinnis owned a .992 fielding percentage behind the plate in his final season, and .987 for his career. In 185 career games, he batted .285 and ranked among the WIU career 'Top 10' in hits (178/8th), doubles (34/T-8th), RBI (98/T-9th) and games played (5th). McGinnis saved his best offensive year for the 2017 campaign. In addition to leading the league in batting (.355) and on-base (.4710, he also ranked second in doubles (17), third in slugging percentage (.566) and ranked 33rd nationally in toughest to strikeout (12.8). McGinnis was named one of 15 semifinalists nationally for the Johnny Bench Award. A standout in the classroom, McGinnis was a member of the Academic All-Summit League, and he concluded his senior year by being voted the WIU Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
A native of Normal, Ill., he graduated from Western Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.
