Payton Brown Earns Second OVC Player of the Week Honor After Record-Tying Performance

MACOMB, Ill. – For the second time this season, Western Illinois shortstop Payton Brown has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, following an electrifying four-game stretch that saw her dominate both at the plate and in the field.

Brown slashed an impressive .545 (6-for-11) across the week, scoring 6 runs and driving in 6 RBI's. The highlight of her week came in a blowout win over Tennessee State on April 7, where she delivered a performance for the record books — going 3-for-3 with three home runs, including a grand slam. With that, Brown tied the Western Illinois softball program record for the most home runs in a single game, cementing her place in Leatherneck history.

Her weekly stat line included: 3 home runs, 1 double, 5 walks, and 1 stolen base

Brown's plate discipline and power were on full display as she consistently reached base and produced in high-leverage situations. She also held things down defensively at shortstop, recording multiple assists without committing an error.

This is Brown's second OVC Player of the Week honor this season, highlighting her consistent impact and leadership on the field. With OVC play heating up, her performance continues to be a driving force behind the Leathernecks' success.

Brown and Leatherneck softball will be back at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium in Macomb, IL on Wednesday, April 16th to face off against the Kansas City Roos at 2 p.m.
