MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois softball saw its season come to a close Wednesday afternoon with a 10-2 loss to Southeast Missouri in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at OSF Healthcare Field in Peoria, Illinois.
The Leathernecks finish the 2026 season with a 14-32 overall record after earning the program's first-ever berth into the OVC Tournament.
Western Illinois collected five hits in the contest and tied the game in the second inning when Alijah Williams drove in Sophia Sanchez with a single up the middle. SEMO responded with a six-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Addisyn Martinie, to take control of the game.
The Leathernecks added their second run in the third inning as Maria Luna singled to center field to score Payton Brown and cut the deficit to 7-2.
Williams, Luna, Addie McLaughlin, Kam Utendorf and Raegan Boone each recorded a hit for the Leathernecks. Williams and Luna each finished with an RBI, while Brown and Sanchez scored the team's two runs.
Despite the season-ending result, Western Illinois took a major step forward during the 2026 campaign by qualifying for the OVC Tournament for the first time in program history.
