Macomb, IL. - Western Illinois University celebrated a historic Giving Tuesday on December 2nd, raising a record-breaking $135,800 across the entire institution. WIU Athletics played a major role in the success, generating $24,976 through the annual Leatherneck Athletics Giving Tuesday Challenge. This year's challenge centered on donor participation, with three competitive incentives. $5,000 to the team with the most total donors, $5,000 to the team with the highest number of new donors, and $5,000 to the team that raised the highest total dollars.
Athletic donors answered the call, pushing multiple programs to strong fundraising performances. Football earned the $5,000 prize for most dollars raised, collecting an impressive $5,400 during the day. Leatherneck Track & Field led the way in donor engagement, winning $10,000 in bonus challenge funds by securing both categories Most new donors with 27 and Most total donors with 60.
"We are incredibly grateful for the Leatherneck community and the support they continue to show our student-athletes," said Associate Athletic Director Dr. Cameron Caldwell-Conner. "This year's Giving Tuesday turnout demonstrates the strength of Leatherneck Nation and the commitment our alumni, fans, and families have to elevating the student-athlete experience."
The $24,976 raised by WIU Athletics will directly enhance student-athlete resources, including academic support, team travel, nutrition, equipment, and facility improvements. With over 400 Leathernecks competing across multiple sports, these contributions provide meaningful and immediate impact.
Western Illinois Athletics extends its sincere appreciation to all donors who contributed on Giving Tuesday. Supporters who missed the event can still make a gift at any time by visiting here.
