Matchup

The Western Illinois women's basketball team continues conference season by facing the SIUE Cougars. The Leathernecks are 9-1 this season. Western Illinois is in its third year in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last Time Out

Western Illinois Women's Basketball opened conference play with a 74–65 road victory at Lindenwood on Dec. 18. The Leathernecks used a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 23–12, to pull away late after a tightly contested first three periods. Mia Nicastro led WIU with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Mallory Shetley added 16 points off the bench. Addi Brownfield chipped in 14 points and four steals as Western Illinois improved to 9–1 overall and 1–0 in league action.

Scouting the Cougars

The SIUE Cougars enter the 2025-26 season carrying solid momentum and a balanced roster that has shown both scoring punch and toughness on the glass. SIUE compiled one of its best starts in over a decade, opening non-conference play with strong showings — including an 83-36 win over Harris-Stowe — to sit with a 7-3 overall record before league play kicks off. Senior Macy Silvey and emerging freshman standouts like Kiyoko Proctor and Lauren Miller have led the offensive charge, with Proctor posting double-figure scoring nights and Miller consistently contributing in points and rebounds. The Cougars also rank well in team rebounding and have displayed a capable defense, holding opponents under 60 points per game overall. SIUE's schedule featured a mix of challenging road trips and competitive home dates, giving the team valuable experience before entering OVC competition. As the Cougars begin conference play, look for them to lean on their experience, depth, and defensive effort as they aim to make noise in the league.
