Western Illinois Releases 2024-25 Men’s Basketball Schedule

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois University men's basketball program unveiled its 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday. The Leathernecks play a 31-game schedule, with 11 non-conference matchups and 20 games in Ohio Valley Conference play. 

Western Illinois opens its 2024-25 schedule in California, playing San Jose State on November 4 before taking on Pepperdine on November 6. 

The following week, Western Hall sees its first men's basketball action of the year, as the Leathernecks host Green Bay and Central Arkansas in Macomb, both return games from the 2023-24 season. Green Bay made a splash coaching hire this offseason, bringing in popular radio host Doug Gottlieb who will make his head coaching debut with the Phoenix this season. The Leathernecks take on Green Bay on November 13 and play Central Arkansas on November 16. 

Western Illinois then travels to Cedar Falls for a standalone game with Northern Iowa on November 19, before returning to Macomb to take on the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College on November 21. 

Following the Monmouth matchup, the Leathernecks travel to Mobile, Alabama, taking on South Alabama on November 26 before playing Incarnate Word the next day in Mobile. 

A home back-to-back follows up the Mobile trip, as the Leathernecks will face off against Saint Ambrose on December 4. and East-West University on December 6.

The final non-conference matchup of the year takes place in Vermillion, South Dakota, as WIU faces former Summit League foe South Dakota on December 14. 

Moving into OVC play, the conference moved from an 18-game schedule to a 20-game schedule for the 2024-25 season, ensuring a home and away matchup for every team in the conference. WIU tips off the conference season on December 17 with a home matchup against Tennessee Tech. 

Western then goes on a three-game road trip in conference play, traveling to Lindenwood on December 21 before a ten-day holiday break. On January 2, Western Illinois takes on SIUE, before traveling to Charleston to take on Eastern Illinois on January 4. 

The Leathernecks welcome UT Martin to Western Hall on January 9, before taking on Tennessee State on Saturday, January 11. 

Another weekend road trip comes after the two-game homestand, as Western faces off with 2024 OVC Champs Morehead State on January 16, and then heads to Evansville for a January 18 matchup with the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana. 
Western Hall will see four straight home games following that trip, as WIU takes on Little Rock on January 23, SEMO on January 25, Eastern Illinois on January 30, and SIUE on February 1. 

After the homestand, the Leathernecks travel to Tennessee, playing Tennessee State on February 6, and UT Martin on February 8. 

Western Hall's final full weekend of basketball action sees the Leathernecks face off against Southern Indiana on February 13, before playing Morehead State on February 15. 

The Leathernecks then travel south to SEMO on February 20 and play Little Rock in Arkansas on February 22. 

Western's final home game of the season will come against Lindenwood on February 25, before wrapping up conference play in Cookeville, taking on Tennessee Tech on February 27.

The 2025 OVC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will take place in Evansville, Indiana from March 5-8.
