The Leathernecks look to make an impact in year one in the OVC.

MACOMB, IL - The 2024 season marks the dawn of a new era for Western Illinois Men's Soccer, as they depart The Summit League to join the Ohio Valley Conference. The Leathernecks will get familiar with new opponents, as they will play new conference mates Liberty and Incarnate Word for the first time in school history, and square up against Houston Christian for the first time since 1985.

The new conference also presents some familiar foes, with Western taking on former 2022 Summit League sides Lindenwood and Southern Indiana. Rounding out the conference are a pair of in-state rivals, SIUE and Eastern Illinois, who the Leathernecks have faced off with on a combined 85 occasions.

Western Illinois unofficially kicks off its season with an August 10th exhibition at UIC, followed by the Alumni Game, which takes place on Saturday, August 17th in Macomb.

The Leathernecks' first three games are all on the road, as they open the season in Phoenix at Grand Canyon on August 22nd. Following that match are a pair of games closer to home, as Western heads to Indianapolis to take on Butler on the 25th, followed by a match at Bradley on the 29th.

On the first of September, Western hosts its first of three non-conference home games against Quincy. They follow that up with another home game against a non-D1 opponent, hosting St. Ambrose on the fifth. The Leathernecks hit the road again the following weekend, playing at Northern Kentucky on September 8th. On the 15th, Western makes its longest trip of the year, heading out to Spokane, Washington to take on Gonzaga. Rounding out the non-conference schedule, WIU takes on in-state rival Northern in Macomb on the 20th, before facing off against the Jaguars of IU Indianapolis on the 24th.

Western is welcomed to the OVC with a few long-distance road games, heading to Liberty on September 28th. Then, Western Illinois heads south to Texas, taking on Houston Christian on October 3rd, then Incarnate Word on October 6th.

John MacKenzie Alumni Field sees a lot more action later into the fall, as five of the Leathernecks' seven final games all take place in Macomb. Western battles Liberty for the second time on October 10th, before heading down to St. Charles to face Lindenwood on the 13th. Western gets back-to-back home games on the 16th and 20th, as they meet Southern Indiana and Eastern Illinois, respectively.

Following the matchup with the Panthers, Western will get a mid-week break, before heading down to Edwardsville for a Saturday matchup with SIUE. Western wraps up the OVC season with another pair of back-to-back home games, as the Texas schools come to town. They'll play Incarnate Word on Halloween, before finishing off the regular season on November 3rd against Houston Christian.

The following weekend, the OVC Men's Soccer Championship kicks off in Edwardsville, lasting from the 10th until the 16th. The top six out of the eight in the conference will battle it out for a ticket to the College Cup, a feat the Leathernecks last accomplished in 2012.
