Mateo Rascon finishes 2nd, WIU finishes 3rd at Stampede at the Creek.

MACOMB, IL - The WIU Men's Golf team wrapped their final spring meet at the Stampede at the Creek. The team finished in 3rd place. After Luke Lofgren's third-place finish at the WIU Intercollegiate last week set the best individual finish this season, freshman Mateo Rascon topped it with a second-place finish. Lofgren finished inside of the top 20.

Rascon led off the front nine of round one with a par. Rascon had three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back on holes seven and eight. Rascon shot a 35 (-1) on the front nine. Rascon had six pars and two birdies on the back nine and finished the round shooting 71 (-1). Rascon added a birdie early in round two on a par four in hole two. Rascon also buried an eagle on a par five on hole seven. Rascon had five pars on the back nine of round two and finished the round shooting 77 (+5). Rascon wasted no time getting his second eagle of the tournament in round three on hole four. Rascon added another birdie and finished the front nine, shooting 36 (E). Rascon started the back nine off with back-to-back birdies. Rascon added a third birdie on hole 13. For the second time on the back nine, Rascon birdied on back-to-back holes on holes 15 and 16. Rascon finished the back nine shooting a staggering 32 (-4) and the round shooting 66 (-4) consisting of six birdies, one eagle, and seven pars.

Lofgren had one birdie and seven pars on the front nine in round one. Lofgren added eight more pars on the back nine and finished the round shooting 74 (+2). Lofgren led off round two with a bogey before erasing that with a birdie in hole two. Lofgren added six more pars on the front nine. Lofgren added six more pars on the back nine and finished the round shooting 76 (+4). Lofgren started round three off strong by burying a birdie. Lofgren added six more pars on the front nine. Lofgren shot a 37 (+1) on the front nine. Lofgren buried three birdies on the back nine and finished the round shooting a 73 (+1).

Nathan Tillman finished the tournament with eight birdies, four coming in round three. David Ayala and Bayden Hubacher both had six birdies. Baptiste Labeyrie had six birdies in the tournament and an eagle in round three. Labeyrie shot a 70 (-2) in round three.

The team will now head out to Muscle Shoals, Ala for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The event will begin on Sunday, Apr. 21, and run through Wednesday, Apr. 24.
