MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois men's golf team finished 8th in their inaugural Ohio Valley Conference Championship. WIU used a solid final round to move up the leaderboard on the final day.
Mateo Rascon was atop the Western Illinois leaderboard all week long as he tied for 17th place. The freshmen opened the three-day event with a 78 before firing back-to-back 73s to end days two and three. Mateo put together 15 pars with a birdie in round two and then three birdies in the final round.
David Ayala was a top-30 finisher in his first OVC tournament. The senior, in his final tournament as a Leatherneck, started the opening round with an 81 before gaining ground with a 74 in round two and 75 in the final round. Ayala knocked down three birdies in the three rounds.
