Alex Becerra Joins Leatherneck Volleyball Staff

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University volleyball coach Dale Starr announced the addition of Alex Becerra on Tuesday morning. Becerra will serve as the assistant coach for the Leatherneck program.

"We are excited for Alex to join our staff. She is very eager and driven, and will be a great addition to our program," Starr said. "She has great energy and I look forward to her becoming an integral part of our success as we work towards Ohio Valley Conference championships."

Becerra joins the Leatherneck program after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. At Lake Erie, Becerra was in charge of all play cards during matches and collecting and recording all opposing team statistics during competition. Becerra also handled recruiting by executing recruiting trips and planning and executing recruit visits to campus.

Becerra started her coaching career at the prep level for the Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club. At Carolina Juniors, she was a head coach for multiple high school and middle school-aged teams. In 2021, Becerra joined Eastside Volleyball Club as head coach for their American 15.4 and National 13.1 teams.

Before coaching, Becerra's playing career started at Queens University of Charlotte. At Queens University, Becerra appeared in 18 matches with 11 starts. She was second on the team with 378 assists and fifth with 2.93 digs per set. In 2019, Becerra transferred to Lake Erie, where she appeared in all 30 matches for the Storm, registering 639 assists and 5.65 assists per set.
