WIU Women's Basketball Sinks 18 Threes in Win Over Chicago State

Macomb, Ill- WIU women's basketball showcased an exceptional performance in their 93-75 victory over Chicago State, powered by an outstanding display of three-point shooting and a standout performance from guard Allie Meadows. The Leathernecks demonstrated precision and confidence from beyond the arc, draining 18 of their 31 three-point attempts, having a 58.1% conversion rate that highlighted their offensive efficiency.

The game was a shooting clinic led by Meadows, who turned in a flawless performance from deep. Meadows scored 23 points, connecting on all seven of her three-point attempts. Her perfect shooting night from beyond the arc not only electrified her team but also set the tone for a game that saw WIU dominate from start to finish. Meadows' offensive brilliance extended beyond scoring; she also added five assists and five rebounds, making her presence felt across all aspects of the game.

Mallory McDermott added to WIU's three-point barrage, sinking six triples on 12 attempts. McDermott's 20-point performance provided an essential scoring punch, complementing Meadows' sharpshooting and adding depth to the Leathernecks' perimeter offense. Together, the duo accounted for 13 of the team's 18 three-pointers.

Mia Nicastro also contributed significantly to the win with 16 points and eight rebounds, offering an interior presence to balance WIU's perimeter attack. 

Defensively, WIU held their ground against Chicago State, forcing turnovers and converting them into fast-break opportunities. The Leathernecks forced 19 turnovers which turned into 20 points off of those turnovers. 

The game opened with WIU asserting control early, thanks to a series of well-executed three-pointers that quickly established a lead. Meadows and McDermott wasted no time finding their rhythm and by halftime, WIU had built a comfortable cushion, leading 55-27..

WIU's offensive performance was characterized not only by their accuracy but also by their ball movement. The team recorded 25 assists on 33 made field goals.

This win improved the Leathernecks record to 4-1. The team will now travel to Peoria, Ill. to take on Bradley on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
