Historic Win
Western Illinois picked up a historic 81-75 win over the SIUE Cougars. The six-point win marked the first-ever win for WIU in the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
Off To a Hot Start
Western Illinois is off to a hot start to begin the 2023-24 campaign. The Leathernecks are posting a 10-2 record for the second time in the last three years. WIU has had a 10-2 or better record through the first ten games of play just three times under Coach JD Gravina. WIU started the 2021-22 season with an 11-2 record.
 
Chasing History
Head Coach JD Gravina is two wins away from tying Leslie Crane as the winningest coach in Western Illinois Women's Basketball history. He will need three wins to become the winningest coach.
 
Home Court Advantage
Western Illinois has taken full advantage of playing their first seven out of ten games at home. The Leathernecks sit with a perfect 8-0 record at home, defeating teams by an average of 30.75 points a game.
 
Protecting Western Hall
In the 13 years that Head Coach JD Gravina has Coached WIU, the Leathernecks hold an 8-5 record in their first home game of conference play.
 
Freshman Rising
Raegan McCowan has been leading the Leathernecks all season long. Named the OVC Freshmen of the Week four times this season, McCowan is averaging 18.1 and 6.8 rebounds for WIU.
 
Crashing the Glass
The Western Illinois squad has outrebounded its opponents by 506-390. The Leathernecks hold a 9.7 rebound differential. Western Illinois is cleaning up the offensive glass, outrebounding opponents 147-95 on that side of the ball.
 
Starting Strong, Finishing Stronger
Western Illinois has started the first quarter on fire as they have outscored their opponents 249-172. The Leathernecks have outscored their opponents in all the other three quarters but have dominated the 3rd quarter, outscoring opponents 271-178.

NCAA Rankings
Western Illinois currently has the highest NET ranking of any OVC school at 196. The Leathernecks are also ranked 7th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage.
 
Double Digit Machines
WIU had five players score in double digits against SIUE. Allie Meadows led the way with 18, Raegan McCowan had 17, Mallory McDermott had 15, Anna Deets had 12, and Jasmine Nichols rounded it off with 11. This was the first time this season that WIU had five players in double digits.
 
OVC Rankings
Western Illinois ranks number one in the OVC in points scored at 82.3 and points allowed at 62.0. The Leathernecks are also number one in team field goal percentage (46.6%), Opponent field goal percentage (37.5%), 3-point field goal percentage (39.5), 3-point field goals made (8.4), Opponent 3-point field goal percentage (28.5), Rebounds (42.2), Team defensive rebounds (29.9), Rebound Margin (9.7), Assist-turnover ratio (1.19), and Assists (17.2 Avg/G).
 
On the player side, Raegan McCowan ranks second in points (18.1), fifth in rebounds (6.8), and first in field goal percentage (50.3%). Anna Deets ranks second in free throw percentage at 89.5%, Mallory McDermott is third with 2.4 threes a game, and Addi Brownfield is second in steals at 2.1 per game.
