Previous matchup: Western has struggled historically against Omaha, holding a 2-11-1 all-time record against the Mavericks. Last year's matchup saw the Leathernecks take a 2-0 loss at home. The last time Western picked up a point versus the Mavericks was a 2-1 win in 2015.

Scouting the opponents: Omaha has opened the season with a 3-3-2 record, and hold a five-match unbeaten streak going into Saturday's match. Omaha has picked up wins versus Chicago State, Grand Canyon, and Texas Rio Grande Valley. They most recently played fellow Summit League outfit Kansas City to a 1-1 draw. The Mavericks are led by Ede Gramberg and Junior Casillas, as both players have notched four goals on the season.

So far this season: The Leathernecks have so far started the season with a 1-7-1 record. After starting the year 0-5-1, Western's win on the season was a 2-1 effort against in-state rival Eastern Illinois. In the past week, Western took a tough 8-0 loss to Oral Roberts, and on Tuesday lost a 2-1 last-minute heartbreaker at Northern Kentucky.

Players to watch: Two freshman, Xavier Gagnon and Diego Porras, scored the goals in the win vs. Eastern Illinois. Fellow newcomer Oskar Grevelius assisted Gagnon's header in the match. Against Northern Kentucky, Gagnon slotted away his second goal of the season, which was assisted by grad student Kyle Owen. Owen is also the team's shot leader in 2023, with 12 attempted on the year.

What's next: Looking ahead to next week, Western will have a week-long break before taking on St. Thomas at home next Saturday. The Leathernecks have one more non-conference game, a matchup against IUPUI on October 10th.
