Western Illinois Softball Announces Fall Schedule

Four NJCAA World Series qualifiers highlight fall schedule

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois Softball has announced its fall schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 15). Head Coach Alisa Goler and the Leathernecks welcome eight different junior college programs, including four teams who competed in the NJCAA Softball World Series to Mary Ellen Mckee Stadium this fall.

WIU begins its fall campaign on Sept. 8 against the Golden Eagles of Rock Valley. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 44-12 season this past spring which saw an appearance in the NJCAA DII Softball World Series. Rock Valley's 44 wins were the ninth consecutive season the program had reached the 40-win mark.

After battling the Golden Eagles, the Leathernecks welcome Heartland Community College on Sept. 9 and Danville Area Community College on Sept. 17. Danville appeared in their second straight NJCAA Softball World Series finishing 9th, compiling a 43-24 overall record.

Western Illinois starts its third weekend of the fall season with a matchup against Lakeland Community College on Sept. 23. The Lakers put together a 50-win season last spring, earning the number one seed in the Region 24 tournament. On Sept. 24, the Leathernecks host Indian Hills Community College. The Warriors are coming off a program's best finish since 2004, finishing 8th at the NJCAA DI Softball World Series.

The Leathernecks host Spoon River and Southeastern Community College on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1. The Snappers finished with 39 wins tallying the most wins in over ten years for the program. Southeastern fished with 25 wins falling to Indian Hills in the Region 11 tournament finals.

WIU wraps up its fall schedule with the Kirkwood Eagles on Oct. 7. The Eagles are the fourth NJCAA Softball World Series participant the Leathernecks will face in the fall. Kirkwood finished in the top eight at the NJCAA DII Softball World Series with a 45-18 overall record.
