Spring practice kicks off March 24

MACOMB -- The Western Illinois football program has released its schedule for spring practice, the annual spring game and spring golf outing.

The Leathernecks open camp March 24 and have 15 practices over the following month with the final practice consisting of the annual spring game on Friday, April 21.

The spring game is scheduled to begin with the annual Leatherneck Handshake between Western Illinois Football Alumni and the current Leatherneck squad at 6 p.m.

The Leatherneck handshake will be followed by the spring game pitting the offense against defense in various game situations.

"We are extremely excited for our spring ball schedule, and can't wait to get back on Hanson Field," WIU football coach Myers Hendrickson said. "We have been building this winter with team activities, and are excited to take the next step as a program. The energy this winter has been outstanding, the 2023 Leathernecks are hungry, and we look forward to a productive spring ball. We have had great winter workouts and are eager to practice as a new team together in 2023."

The day after the spring game, the program hosts its annual golf outing at Harry Mussatto Golf Course. The outing consists of a four-person scramble with registration and check-in starting at 7:45 a.m. with by a 9 a.m. tee off to follow.

The cost is $125 per person and includes Leatherneck gear (Western Illinois hat, sleeve of golf balls) a meal and drinks and prizes for hole contests and winning team. Hole sponsorship is also available $250.

"We appreciate the great campus and community support and look forward to seeing you out at the Bruce Craddock Memorial Spring Game and our WIU Football Golf Outing," Hendrickson said.
