Leathernecks Host Coe on Wednesday; Visit Green Bay on Saturday

WIU looks to build momentum going into finals

MACOMB – The Western Illinois men's basketball team plays a pair of games this week, closing out a three-game homestand inside Western Hall on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Coe College before hitting the road for a Saturday evening game at Green Bay at 6 p.m.
 
The Leathernecks come into the week 3-6 overall. After the Green Bay game, WIU is off until hosting Eureka College on December 18. The Leathernecks close the nonconference portion of the schedule on December 20, visiting Central Arkansas.

LAST TIME OUT | Western Illinois fell in a heart-breaker on Sunday, losing to former Summit League rival South Dakota, 70-68 at the buzzer.
 
Ryan Myers hit a game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left, but the Coyotes were able to get a shot to fall at the buzzer for the win. The loss was the first for the Leathernecks inside Western Hall.
 
Myers led WIU with a season-high 25 points while Drew Cisse grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds. The 20 boards were the second-most in a game in program history.
 
CLEANING THE GLASS | Drew Cisse's 20 rebounds in Sunday are the most in a game by a WIU player since Dan Braun had 24 in 1969. Cisse is 3rd in the NCAA in total rebounds (98); 1st in total offense rebounds (41), 9th in rebounds per game (10.9), tied for 20th in total defensive rebounds (57).
 
BLOCK PARTY | WIU is second in the country in blocked shots per game with 6.8 and first in total blocks (61). Cisse is tied for 20th in the country with 19 total blocks.
 
ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS | Western Illinois comes in at 3-6 overall. The Leathernecks average 70 points per game while allowing 71.7. WIU is shooting 40.1 percent from the field while opponents are making 42 percent of their shots. WIU is outrebounding opponents 43.9-38.3 in games this season.
 
James Dent Jr. leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game. Myers is behind him, scoring 12.8 per game.
 
ABOUT THE KOHAWKS | Coe has been playing good basketball this winter, coming in at 8-1 this season. Coe scores 79.6 points per game while allowing 69.3.
 
Cale Schmitt and TJ Schnurr have been key to the offense, each scoring 18.3 points per contest.
 
ABOUT THE PHOENIX | Green Bay is 4-4 overall, but the Phoenix play Ohio Valley foe Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Along with SIUE, Green Bay and WIU have a common opponent in Valpo. The Crusaders beat Green Bay 64-59 on Nov. 14 while WIU fell to Valpo 73-66 on Nov. 21.
 
Green Bay scores 62.8 points per game while allowing opponents to average 64.5. The Phoenix shoot 45.4 percent from the floor while foes make 39.7.
 
Noah Reynolds leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game. Clarence Cummings III adds 10.5 a night. Elijah Jones leads the way on the boards, grabbing 7.8 rebounds a game.
 
HISTORY | Western Illinois is 2-0 all-time vs. Coe, most recently defeating the KoHawks 88-80 inside Western Hall 88-80 in 1990.
 
Western Illinois and Green Bay were once conference rivals in the Mid-Con Conference. The Leathernecks are 8-25 all-time vs. the Phoenix with Green Bay taking the last meeting 86-69 inside Western Hall on December 14, 2003.
 
WHAT'S NEXT | After the Green Bay game, WIU heads into a week-plus break for finals, next playing at home on December 18 vs. Eureka College. WIU closes out the nonconference portion of the schedule on the road, playing at Central Arkansas on December 20. Western Illinois opens its inaugural season in the Ohio Valley Conference on December 31, visiting SIU-E.
