Western Illinois Volleyball Adds Two

MACOMB, IL – Head Coach Dale Starr and Western Illinois Volleyball inked a pair of players on National Signing Day. The Leathernecks will welcome Melaina Hawblitzel and Cheyenne Luper in 2024.

Melaina Hawblitzel | 5'10| OH | Warsaw, IN.
Melaina racked up high school accomplishments in her four years at the high school level. A varsity captain at Warsaw High School, Hawblitzel earned All-Conference honors in 2021-23. She was named to the AVCA Girls High School All-Region and Best and Brightest teams in 2023 and earned tryouts in 2022 and 2023 with the North All-Stars. A student on the court and in the classroom, Hawblitzel, posted a 4.24 GPA in 2023. She has been named to the Summa Cum Laude Honor roll and was a part of the National Honor Society in high school.

Cheyenne Luper | 5'11 | RS/MB | Dallas, TX
Cheyenne makes the trip to Macomb from Dallas, Texas. A starter in all her years playing high school volleyball, Luper helped her team to a 1st place finish at the Northeast Qualifier Tournament. Luper earned a spot on the 2022 MaxPreps Shooting Stars list in 2022 and led her team to a state championship runner-up finish. In her sophomore and junior years, Luper finished with 130 kills, 65 blocks, and 32 digs combined.
