MACOMB – The Leatherneck Baseball team hit a fundraising home run by raising an impressive $21,035 at their recent golf outing. The successful event, held at Harry Mussatto Golf Course on October 7, united the local community, alumni, sponsors, and baseball enthusiasts in support of the baseball program. Additionally, the golf outing had the support of over 125 hole and event sponsors, which was the most in the history of the athletic department for an individual sport.

The tournament featured a day of camaraderie, friendly competition, and a shared love for the game of golf, all while helping to fund essential resources for the Leathernecks. The event was made possible through the unwavering support of alumni, local businesses and generous sponsors. Their contributions, along with the dedication of the players and the community's enthusiastic participation, made it a day to remember.

"We are thrilled with the tremendous success of our golf tournament," said Terry Davis, Head Coach of the Western Illinois Baseball Team. "The support from our community, Baseball Alumni, local businesses, and our dedicated student-athletes was incredible. These funds will go a long way in helping us improve our facilities, advance our player development technology, and enhance the overall experience for our student-athletes." 

The money raised will be allocated to various aspects of the baseball program, including upgrading training facilities, purchasing equipment, and new software to aid in player development and recruiting. Davis is committed to nurturing the next generation of Leatherneck Baseball, both on and off the field, and this successful fundraiser is a testament to that commitment.

"Community and Alumni Involvement are core values of our program, and our players have done an outstanding job up to this point of understanding that if we want support and respect that we have to go out and earn it," Davis said. "Thanks to everyone who played a part in this record-setting event and we look forward to seeing you in the spring. Go 'Necks!"
