Western has found success in recent seasons, however, winning each of the last three contests by a combined score of 5-2, including a 2-1 road victory last season. Angie Knies scored off a direct free kick from way outside the penalty box and paired with an Amy Andrews opener to secure the victory.

Against Kansas City, Western Illinois is 4-7 in a series that goes back to a 2-1 road victory on Oct. 10, 2009. The Leathernecks were also victorious in last season's matchup, hitting the road on Oct. 22 and winning 1-0. Isabel Navas Rodriguez made two saves as WIU out-shot the competition 12-9 (9-3 on target) and forced seven saves from the UMKC goalkeeper.

Scouting the opponents: Entering Friday's contest Oral Roberts is 5-4-1 and coming off a loss, falling 1-0 on the road at Tulsa on Sunday (Sept. 18). With recent victories over Mid-America Christian (4-1), Arkansas Pine Bluff (2-0), ORU is averaging over two goals and putting up 18 shots per game. Kennedy Langebartels, Annaliese Guisto and Julia Thasaphong have combined to provide the Golden Eagles with 12 goals and seven assists this season.

After going 6-13 last season, UMKC is currently 1-6-2 and coming off a strong weekend of non-league action, winning 1-0 against Chicago State on Friday (Sept. 16) and finishing a scoreless draw against Colorado State on Sunday. The Roos have struggled to score goals this season with four in nine games, and the team has employed two goalkeepers, MacKenzie Caldweel and Riley Moore, who have combined to make 43 total saves.

So far this season: The Leathernecks are currently 2-3-3 and coming off a decisive 1-0 road victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday (Sept. 16). After Hana Daoudi played a long cross from out wide, Andrews controlled the ball and scored from the top of the box, and Western's defense continued its run of strong performances to hold EIU off and maintain the clean sheet. After finishing all of 2021 with three shutouts, the team has managed four through the first eight games of 2022. Five of the team's eight goals have been assisted on while putting over 50% of shots on target.

Players to watch: After a record-breaking 2021 season, Amy Andrews has continued to find success this year. Through eight games, the Birmingham, England, native is tied for the league-lead in goals (five) while ranking first in shots (35), second in shots on goal (19) and tying for third for points scored (10). Andrews entered this season as the all-time program leader in goals scored and is now up to 31 in her career, while inching up closer to Ashley Hoch's record for total points that sits at 76; Andrews currently has 65 which ranks as second-most in a career by a Leatherneck.

Bailey Burlingham has played a key role for the Leatherneck midfield this season, starting each of the team's eight games this season and playing 641 total minutes while featuring for the full 90 on three separate occasions. She recorded the second assist of her Western Illinois career in the season opener against Eastern Michigan, playing Andrews in for the game-tying goal.

"Bailey works extremely hard for us and has put in a lot of minutes so far this season," head coach Josee Primeau said. "Her drive and willingness to improve from game to game is her greatest strength. She has improved in every single game and has really helped bring stability to our defense."

In her first season of collegiate soccer, Hana Daoudi is one of ten Leathernecks to feature in all eight games thus far, making seven starts and playing an average of 75 minutes per appearance. A freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Daoudi recorded the first assist of her career against Northern Illinois and followed it up with another assist against Eastern Illinois on Sept. 16.

What's next: Daoudi, Burlingham and the rest of the roster will hit the road for the next set of games, heading to Grand Forks and Fargo next weekend. Kick-off against North Dakota is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 30) with a Sunday (Oct. 2) matchup against North Dakota State slated to kick at 1 p.m.
