Leathernecks Fifth on 2021-22 WBCA Academic Top 25

| By:
ATLANTA, Ga. – After a successful season on the court and in the classroom, the 2021-22 Western Illinois Women's Basketball program added more recognition last Wednesday (July 20), tying for fifth in the nation for combined team GPA in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) honor roll. At 3.723, the Leathernecks were tied with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and ahead of Boise State (3.721) while sitting just behind Lipscomb University (3.725) in the Division-I rankings.

"I'm really proud that this team has continued to be one of the best teams academically in the nation," head coach JD Gravina said. "It's a good reminder about how amazing these young women are and how lucky we are to have them in our WIU and Macomb community."

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes schools at all levels of collegiate basketball including NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams, and looks at the highest combined GPAs of teams across an entire season. The 2021-22 season is the 27th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

The Leathernecks were joined by three other Summit League schools in the top 25: South Dakota State (first), South Dakota (20th) and North Dakota (23rd).
