WIU volleyball earns 2022 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

Leathernecks post 3.709 team GPA

The Western Illinois women's volleyball program earned high marks from the United States Marine Corps and American Volleyball Coaches Association for their performance in the classroom this last year, earning the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
The Leathernecks were one of 1200 programs from around the country earning the recognition.
 
Last year, the Western Illinois volleyball program posted a team Grade Point Average of 3.709.
 
Western Illinois' volleyball has earned the honor 10 times, getting recognition in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022.
 
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
