Eyes On The Prize For Western Illinois Women’s Golf

Women’s golf is set to compete in the 2022 Summit League Championships.

Where | Sand Creek Station Golf Course (Newton, Kan.)
 
Western Illinois women's golf heads to Newton, Kan., for the 2022 Summit League Women's Golf Championships. The Leathernecks compete in the three-day tournament beginning Sunday (April 24) at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course, a par 72, 6000-yard course. Teams will play 54 holes, and the winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Teams will begin 8 a.m. CT each day. 

"It's been a challenging semester weather-wise to prepare for events, but the team is ready to compete next week," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "The IUPUI event was one of our best team and individual performances so we will build on that moving into Summit Championships. Playing well in the wind and having a solid short game will be keys for us at Sand Creek."
 
Golfer of the Week | Katie Tanner received more Summit League recognition, earning the Summit League Female Golfer of the Week award for her performance at the 2022 Lady Jag Invite. Tanner placed t-fifth, finishing the 36-hole event with a score of +6 over par (150). It's the second time Tanner has finished top-five in a tournament in her career. It's Tanner's first career weekly honor, and she's the first Leathernecks to win the award since 2015.
