Women's Soccer Plays Nebraska

After two exhibition matchups, the Leathernecks went on the road for the season opener.

The Western Illinois University Women's Soccer team hit the road for their season opener on Thursday (Aug. 19), losing 3-0 to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
 
Starting out with an experienced lineup that featured experienced seniors like Jenna Lundgren, Lauryn Peters and Bridget Schuler, the Leathernecks had four the first half, forcing three saves from the Nebraska 'keeper.
 
At the break, Nebraska held a two-goal lead, and they would add one more in the second half to push the lead out of reach.
 
In total the Leathernecks had seven shots, four shots on goal and drew ten fouls. Goalkeeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez had a very strong showing, finishing the game with seven saves on 22 shots faced.
 
The season continues on Sunday (Aug. 22), when the team travels to UW-Milwaukee for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Panthers.
