Bison Sweep Doubleheader

The series finale is set for tomorrow (April 11) at 1 p.m.

FARGO, N.D. - Western Illinois (9-19, 5-10) dropped both games in the doubleheader against the North Dakota State (21-8, 10-5) 10-7 and 6-3 on Saturday (April 10).

"The big inning haunted us today," head coach Andy Pascoe said. "We didn't play clean in the first game then the second game the big hit eluded us. Tomorrow will be a gut check game to really see what we are made of as a team."

Game 1 | Western Illinois 7, North Dakota State 10

Held to three hits in game one on Friday, the Leatherneck bats came to life out of the gates as they totaled eight hits through the first four innings. A four-run fourth led by an RBI single from Kory Olsen and a two-out RBI double by Kevin Raisbeck put Western ahead 5-3.

The Bison responded in their bottom half with a five-run to regain the lead and two in the seventh to go up 10-5.

After being shut out in the fifth and sixth inning, WIU cut into the Bison lead with two runs in the eighth. Back-to-back two-out singles from Raisbeck and Dillon Sears made it 10-7.

Five Leathernecks had multi-hit games led by Derek Botaletto, who finished 3-3 with two RBI.

Game 2 | Western Illinois 3, North Dakota State 6

In game two of the twin-bill, the Bison jumped out on top quick to lead 6-1 through the first two innings.

Western cut the lead in half (6-3) with a sac fly and a fielder's choice in the third. The inning was started by a leadoff double from Alex Dorethy and followed by a single from Derek Botaletto

At the plate, WIU outhit North Dakota State 10-8. Kevin Raisbeck continued his on-base streak of 16 games with a leadoff single to start the game. Botaletto ended the day 5-6 and Dorethy 4-8 with two doubles.

Jack Carberry (3.0) and Jackson Gray (1.0) threw shutout relief out of the bullpen. Carberry notched four strikeouts, and Gray recorded back-to-back scoreless outings in the series against NDSU.
