Evansville Takes Series Opener

Western Illinois fell 11-0 in the series opener at Evansville on Friday (March 5) night.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Western Illinois baseball team (1-4) fell 11-0 in the series opener on Friday (March 5) night against Evansville (4-5).  

Doubles in the second and third innings pushed the host out to a 2-0 lead. Evansville added to the advantage with two two-run frames in the fifth and seventh followed by a three-run eighth.  
 
Jack Carberry relieved Brett Sears (1-1) in the sixth and struck out the side. In two appearances this season, he has struck out six batters, tied for the team-leading. 
 
WIU's three hits on the day came from Kevin Raisbeck, Trenton Bauer, and Chase VanDerGinst. Bauer's single in the eighth marked his fifth hit in as many games to total for second on the team with eight, one behind the team-leader Raisbeck (9). 
 
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at noon. Jace Warkentien will start game one and Chandler Fochs in game two.
